Pedagogy

M.I.N.D. Institute
This video excerpt from "The Today Show" features Music Intelligence Neural Development (M.I.N.D.) Institute which explores music as a window into higher brain function.

Background music: Sonata in D major for Two Pianos, K. 448 "Allegro con spirito" composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, played by Dr. Jung Sook Lee-French and Michelle Horowitz. Credited at 12:29.

Dr. Jung Sook Lee-French's Teaching Method

  • I teach all my students fundamental pianistic techniques on keyboard with focus on fingering, rhythm, counting, ear training, and posture (wrist, arm and shoulder).

  • I teach across all skill levels in music spanning 17th to 21st century in genres ranging from classical, semi-classical, popular, jazz, country, pop, church, screen, to broadway.

  • I teach music theory, improvisation, and composition to all my students.

  • All my students of varying skill levels perform at my annual concert held in June.

  • Many of my students participate in public concerts, competitions, scholarship concerts, festivals, talent shows, and community and honors concerts.

  • I teach pedagogy on teaching beginning piano students to my intermediate and advanced adult students.

  • My intermediate and advanced level students will have their playing recorded on CD or DVD by a professional recording technician. This can be used for college admissions or as evidence of their achievement and talent.
